about

HUSU (Hofstra University StartUps) is the university's only entrepreneurship organization that aims to establish a startup culture that educates and encourages the development of startups. This organization is a hub designed for networking, education, and innovation. Its members have worked hard to foster its culture and diversity in entrepreneurship. Led by the annual e-board, the organization's president, vice president, VP of Communications, Technology, and Finance construct a curriculum of workshops, events, and competitions that contribute to the growth of its entrepreneurs. HUSU is home to the original Pitch Pit.

This 2017-2018 year, we are partnering with a startup developed by our very own, President Lynn, to create the university's first club-run startup. Using the process she developed, we will be helping students in the organization start a business from the idea phase to fruition, molding to their ideas and strategies. Each student will be applying to be on their desired team and headed by advisors from our e-board. Members will benefit from working on the project directly in an iterative, incremental manner that will help them understand each part of the process closely. They get first-hand experience where they can utilize any skills they have already mastered while acquiring new skills and working with all facets of the startup.

Meetings this semester run on Tuesday's and Thursday's at 7PM. Tuesday's are reserved for announcements and workshops followed by meetings with advisors and work sessions. Thursday's are strictly restricted to work sessions. Students are responsible for working outside of class and club time in order to finish the project in a timely manner, keeping in mind when deadlines are.

President, Lynn Luong

Lynn has been president of HUSU since fall 2017 and a member since fall 2016. Increasing the organization member base by 200% in just two short months of being in office, she has worked to increase the traffic of the student body in HUSU events, enhance members' startup education through her own workshop curriculum, bonded her love of tech with entrepreneurship, and worked to foster an overall startup culture at the university and organization. Her ongoing mission is to fill the organization with a repertoire of startups that students will maintain on their own to contribute to each of the diverse industries. Lynn is also the student assistant for the Center for Entrepreneurship, HUSU's home, as well as the 2016 winner of CPXi Business Plan Competition, regional finalist for the New York State Business Plan Competition,  and top 10 finalist of the 2017 Draper Business Competition. Lynn's dedication to this organization surpasses any dedication she has to any other class and she recognizes that that probably isn't how college should go.

""""You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" - Wayne Gretzy" - Michael Scott" actually means nothing. Think about it."

Vice President, Michelle Romeo

Michelle has been vice president since spring of 2016. Since then, she has assisted in many developmental projects for the future of the organization as well as leading many events for HUSU. During the fall of freshman year, she decided last minute to participate in a Lion's Den competition in the IdeaHUb and ended up winning the competition. She decided to dedicate her life to HUSU, becoming the vice president and swearing off her free time to the day-to-day operations of the organization. And she wouldn't give it up for the world. Since then, she also took top 10 finalists in the Draper Business Competition, finalist of the 2017 CPXi Business Plan Competition, and finalist in the New York State Business Plan Competition.

"Check Trello! I promise it's there! . . . I need a chicken roll."

VP of Communications, Adil Abbas

Adil is a HUSU veteran with this being his fourth year with us. As the VP of Communications, he takes care of all internal and public forms of communications for the organization. So, that includes email marketing, maintaining our 4 social media platforms (check it out at the top!), and maintaining communications within e-board. He specializes in social media working for an awesome startup called HungerPass. He has dedicated his life at Hofstra to HUSU, always allowing us to count on him at any hour of the day. We honestly don't understand why he hasn't run away from us. Adil also runs his fraternity, Pi Lambda, that focuses on eliminating prejudice. He's got that management blood! Ask him about it. He loves philosophical conversations and partying.

"Guys, I can't. I'm so hungover." "How was your weekend, though?" "Duuuuude. It was awesome. *shakes head and reminisces*"

VP of Finance, Alec Marcus

Alec was just a freshman last year, but he's rising quickly through the ranks proving to us that we can literally count on him for anything. He learned the OSLE and SGA process and established connections with all of the university's point-persons in order to solidify HUSU's financial relationship with the university. Being an ace in the art of appropriations and budgets, he will be heading the organization's finance team on the board this year. During his freshman year, he started a tech startup with a group of friends and won "Best Pitch" during the Lion's Den and made it to the semi-finals in the Digital Remedy Venture Challenge. They also pitched in EIX, and he made top 10 finalists with his teammates at the Draper Competition at Smith College. His accomplishments and dedication to HUSU make us so proud to have him on the team.
